Professional (Micro)Biographies of Cats. An Essay on Myriam Tonelotto’s Animated Documentary
This article is devoted to the film La voie du chat [The Cat Way] (2009) by Myriam Tonelotto. The author of the text analyzes the way the director combines elements of animation and expository documentarism to construct (micro)biographies of her feline protagonists. In Tonelotto’s film, animal and human biographies intermingle, and one of its main themes is the distortion of the idea of individualism and subjectivity, finding expression, for instance, in how the symbolism of the cat has changed.
