This text discusses the pedagogical and artistic experiences of the author during his stay at Florida Atlantic University as part of the Fulbright Program. It is an attempt to compare dominating trends in the art education system in Poland and the USA. The
reference point for the comparison are the achievements of Black Mountain College, which today remains an unparalleled model of education, not only in the field of art but also ideas of a university open to the challenges of democracy.
