While we may conceptualize numerous forms of care–environmental, historical, medical, psychological, or self-care, to name just a few–one literary act that embodies and exemplifies an ethics of care is literary translation, particularly translation of poetry. This essay is concerned with how poetry translation specifically can be seen as a triangulation of a feminist ethics of care, a form of what Joan Retallack has coined “the poethical wager”, and by what Jerzy Jarniewicz has identified as “a species of translator” known as the legislator. Combined, these concepts demonstrate a poethics of translation and an especially pandemic-resist-ant kind of creative dialogue.
