Budowanie empatii czy opresja? Neuroróżnorodne stany psychotyczne w grach Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (2017) i Baldur’s Gate 3 (2023)
Artykuł analizuje postaci w chronicznych stanach psychotycznych, rozumianych jako neuroatypowe postrzeganie świata spowodowane urojeniami i utratą kontroli nad swoimi czynami, w grach Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (2017) i Baldur’s Gate 3 (2023). Umiejscawiając analizowane dzieła w dyskursie dotyczącym neuroatypowości, artykuł podkreśla rolę medium w procesie oswajania i budowania empatii u graczy.

Abstract:
Building Empathy or Oppression? Neurodiverse Psychotic States in the Games Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (2017) and Baldur’s Gate 3 (2023)
This article analyses characters experiencing chronic psychotic states – understood as neuroatypical perceptions of the world resulting from delusions and a loss of control over one’s actions – in the games Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (2017) and Baldur’s Gate 3 (2023). As these games are based on active participation, they enable players to experience affectively what a psychotic state feels like. At the same time, as a medium, games position neurodiverse characters within systems of oppression that exist in worlds constructed with neurotypical people in mind. By situating the analysed works within the discourse on neuroatypicality, this article highlights the role of the medium in processes of familiarisation and the development of empathy among players.
